What are your options? Commercial fire system features to consider

If you are managing a commercial or public building, fire detection and alert systems are a legal requirement under the Regulation Reform (Fire Safety) Order. A fire alarm system will also enable you to act quickly and safely to minimise damage or disruption in the event of a fire. But what features should you look for in a commercial fire alarm system?

  • A complete fire alarm system will be made up of a number of elements including fire alarm panels, fire detection devices (such as smoke or heat detectors), fire alarm sounders and flashers, and manual call points
  • Addressable fire alarm systems assign a unique address to every device within the system, allowing you to quickly pinpoint the location where fire has broken out
  • A conventional system cannot pinpoint an incident to a particular device. However, it can be ‘zoned’ to give an indication of the location of a fire

Everyone’s needs are different, and what is suitable for smaller businesses might not be the best option for multiple occupancy buildings. When we work with you as your trusted fire protection partner, we will help you to understand the best system, configuration and scaling options for your needs. We’ll also discuss your other configuration options, including:

  • Wiring
  • Installation and mounting
  • Operational needs (such as the ability to trigger warnings or reset the system following an incident)
  • Fire alarm monitoring services

Matthew Haskins, Project Manager

I started with Amthal as an Installation Engineer in 2021 with ambitions to progress into project management. Within 2 years I was given the opportunity to move into a project manager role and I have now been working in this role for a year, managing projects with values of up to £150,000.

I feel l like I have come along way since starting my journey at Amthal and really appreciate all the opportunities that have come from it. We have a fantastic team of people who are always there to support each other, and I couldn’t be happier that I made the decision to join.

Sam Paprotny, Group Operations Manager

I joined Amthal in 2015 shortly after my twin brother. Initially completing a business administration apprenticeship I’ve since moved on to complete a Level 5 in Leadership and Management and I have progressed to become the Group Operations Manager.

Amthal has provided me with great development opportunities which is reflective in my continuous career progression. The culture the business has created is supportive and friendly and is an incredible place to work.

Alex Dearden, Team Leader Internal Sales

I started with Amthal in September 2020 as a sales apprentice and now having completed my Level 4 Sales Executive qualification I have developed to become the team leader of the internal small works and remedial works team.

Amthal is a fantastic place to work and our management have been really supportive of my training journey from completing the apprenticeship to Continuous Professional Development courses and days out with the engineer so that we can understand all the technical elements of our business. The group of people I work with every day makes for an enjoyable atmosphere in the office and no matter what team someone might be in, there is always support across the board.

Reece Paprotny, Group Commercial Director

I started with Amthal in 2015 as an accounts apprentice having joined from outside the industry, having completed my AAT as part of the apprenticeship I’m now well on my way to obtaining my CIMA qualification.

Amthal have invested in my development continuously since 2015 allowing me the opportunity to develop through the business into my current role as Group Commercial Director.

Daniel Greeves, MSR Fire Engineer

I started with Amthal in December 2021 as a trainee engineer with no previous industry experience. A few of my main tasks were to perform weekly fire alarm tests and monthly emergency light checks for our customers.

Along the way I would be spending time with senior engineers on site and be placed on external training courses which were great. I’m now well on my way to becoming a fully qualified fire alarm engineer regularly working on my own servicing and fault diagnosing.

Morgan Mitchell, Installation Coordinator

I joined Amthal in 2018 as an apprentice. while working within the install team as a coordinator I completed my Level 3 Business Admin Qualification. I then continued my development completing my Level 3 Management & Team Leadership Qualification which has supported me in my role and mentoring new coordinators in my team.

I have been at Amthal nearly 5 ½ years and I believe it is a great company to work for as they value you as a team member and invest in your development to encourage you to be the best you can be. Amthal encourages you to share and contribute your ideas whilst creating a supportive and enjoyable work atmosphere which has allowed me to grow both personally and in my career.

David Pascoe, System Design & Estimator

I started with Amthal in June 2005 with no industry experience, initially starting as a multi disciplined service and installation engineer I moved in a different direction and now work within the sales team as a life safety and security system designer and estimator.

The team at Amthal is like an extension to my family, and they have helped me grow both professionally and outside of work, having met my wife through the company. There have been many changes throughout my time with Amthal, but they remain strong to their core beliefs of making Amthal a friendly place to work for and being committed to developing exceptional talent.
