Public Address communication for clear instructions in an emergency

Research suggests that in an emergency, people are more likely to react to human speech than an alarm signal. So, a Public Address Voice Alarm system (otherwise known as a PAVA system) is a simple and effective way to quickly broadcast information during a fire, bomb alert or other emergency. As part of our complete fire protection service, the experts at Amthal can advise you on choosing a PAVA system, as well as providing installation and ongoing maintenance by expert technicians.

What is a PAVA system and how does it work?

A PAVA system is a public address and voice evacuation system that is designed to help keep buildings and their occupants safe.

With speakers set up around the building, clear instructions can be broadcast to occupants, keeping everyone informed about what is happening and enabling an orderly evacuation process.

It’s possible to transmit either prerecorded messages or live broadcasts.

Most PAVA systems are made up of a central control system, microphones and speakers. They can be standalone or linked together to maximise coverage.

Is a PAVA system the right choice for my building?

If you would normally consider a traditional fire alarm system, then it’s likely that a PAVA system would also be suitable for your needs.

Most voice alarm systems are scalable, so they can be used for sectors and industries of all sizes, from one-storey buildings to large structures such as exhibition halls. PAVA systems can be of particular benefit in larger buildings and spaces, such as:

  • Leisure complexes
  • Schools
  • Shopping centres
  • Universities
  • Airports

A professional fire risk assessment could help you to decide if a public address fire alarm system is the most suitable choice for your premises.

Which voice alarm system is the best one for my organisation?

Selecting, designing and commissioning a suitable voice alarm system can be complicated, but the fire protection experts at Amthal can offer professional advice.

We’ll visit your premises to find out more about your physical environment, and we’ll speak to you in person to discover your fire protection and operational requirements.

Some clients choose an optional 24-hour monitoring service with their voice alarm system. When put in place, this will ensure that any fire alert is received and dealt with swiftly, even out of hours.
