New Government Fund Supports Fire Safety To Protect Residents

Amthal is ready to work with leaseholders looking to benefit from the Government’s new £30m funding scheme to support the costs associated with buying and installing fire alarm systems for high-rise buildings.

The new funding was launched to encourage the installation of fire systems as a proven, cost-effective alternative to the costly waking watch patrols enforced in many high-rise residential buildings.

Running simultaneously, the Government has extended the deadline for a £1bn Building Safety Fund by six months (deadline 30 June 2021,) to ensure more buildings can remove unsafe cladding.

These measures are part of the Government’s commitment to improve the safety of buildings across the country for residents, which will be made law through the Building Safety Bill, expected in 2021.

Says Building Safety Minister Lord Greenhalgh: “Our priority is making sure people are safer in their homes and we are working tireless to make this happen.

“The measures announced build on our commitment, which will be enshrined in law through our Building Safety Bill, to improve the safety of buildings across the country.

“Building owners are responsible for making sure that their buildings, and the people who live in them, are safe. We continue to actively pursue them to encourage swift action and have supported this with £1.6 billion in government funding.”

Some buildings that have already been able to install fire safety systems, are now benefiting from significant cost savings, reported at being collectively over *£3million per month.

Says Jamie Allam, CEO Amthal Fire & Security: “The National Fire Chiefs Council have been clear in recent guidance that building owners should move to install common fire alarm systems as quickly as possible to reduce or remove dependence on waking watches.

“The steps and new funding announced by Government will help worried leaseholders who may have faced high costs for interim safety measures by providing financial support and delivering a better, long term fire safety system in their buildings.

“As an industry accredited fire safety specialist, Amthal is able to support those who can benefit from the new funding to ensure compliant and smart fire systems are installed quickly and efficiently for the benefit of leaseholders and their residents. Together, we can work to protect what’s precious especially when it comes to fire safety.”
